How to define the waterproof rating of the aviation plug connector ?

What is the IP rating?

IP stands for protection.

International Electrotechnical Commission “protection level (IP code) of the enclosure”.

Protection level (IP code) IEC 60529 defines the classification of the degree of protection of electrical equipment to prevent foreign objects (such as tools, dust, fingers) and humid gases from entering the enclosure. This classification method is represented by the letter “IP” (entry protection) followed by two digits.

Protection level – the first number

The first digit of the IP code indicates the degree to which the human body is protected from moving parts and the degree of protection against the entry of solid foreign objects into the device casing.

0-No special protection

1- Prevent large parts of the body (such as hands) or prevent solid matter larger than 50mm in diameter from entering

2- Prevent objects that do not exceed 80mm in length and 12mm in diameter from entering

3- Prevent objects such as tools and wires from entering or having a diameter greater than 2.5 mm

4- Prevent the entry of solid matter with a diameter or thickness greater than 1.0 mm

5-Prevent dust and dirt from affecting equipment operation

6-completely dustproof

Protection level – 2nd number

The second number indicates the degree of protection from the enclosure of the equipment that prevents water from entering (eg, dripping, spraying, immersing, etc.) in various forms.

0-No special protection

1- Prevent water from dripping vertically

2- Prevent water from dripping at an inclination of no more than 15°

3-Prevent water injection

4-Prevent water from splashing in

5- Prevent water from entering from the nozzle

6-Prevent large amounts of sea water or water with injection pressure from entering

7-Prevent water from entering during short-term immersion

8- Prevent water from entering during a complete, continuous flooding process (submerged for 15 minutes at a depth of at least 1 meter).
